Bjørvika

Last Sunday we strolled around one of the districts in Oslo that is going through a major facelift. We’re talking about the area around the new and fabulous opera building. New buildings arise, designed by well-known architects. New road constructions, which they have been working on for years. This Sunday the whole work area was open to the public. It was the first (and probably last) opportunity to walk through the tunnel that has been built in 6 separate segments in Bergen, towed all the way to Oslo and lowered down in the Oslofjord, so that we in only a few months can drive “underneath” the opera. On the “surface” an idyllic working and living area arises by the waterside.

After visiting the exhibition where a model of the area was displayed and having walked through the tunnel, we relaxed outside the opera building and had a cup of cappuccino.

New Layout

The layout of my blog has changed and I didn’t even choose it myself and have to try to get familiar with it ;)

Starting on vacation today. Have no plans, other than to fix some parts of the garden.

NADA – The Vocalgroup

Since February this year I have met with 7 other singers from the choir every other week. We call ourselves NADA, meaning “Noen av Diandre” (Diandre is the name of the choir we all are members of). Yesterday was our “kick-off-rehearsal” this season followed by a garden party, where we performed for our spouses and were videotaped by Michael. To our own excuse – we were perhaps not a hundred percent focused at this moment, but nevertheless, I find it doesn’t sound bad at all :)

Kayak Owner

I hereby proudly present my last purchase – a Whisky 16 from the Swedish kayak producer Point65. As I wrote earlier this week, we were looking for kayaks. On Wednesday the decision fell and our bank account suffered a serious decrease, but we are so happy and really satisfied with our choice of kayak. I’ve got a white one, Michael a red one. Here are some photos from our first evening paddle tour on the Oslofjord:

Now we need to buy a waterproof digi-cam, so that we can make lots of photos from our coming sea kayak trips. Today we rounded a couple of islands in the crowded Oslofjord. Amazing how many people put their tents up on these islands and seem to camp there for the weekend or even the whole summer. Since we’ve had splendid weather and great temperatures here the last two weeks, almost all Oslo inhabitants crawl out of their flats and take a boat trip to the islands nearby the city center.

Buying Kayaks?

I promised you photos from our kayaking beginner class. Unfortunately we haven’t gotten any yet, although our instructor told us he would send a CD documenting our first steps with that waggly thing.

Since our class though, we have been discussing on and off, if we’re gonna go for this new sport. In that case, we would have to buy kayaks, otherwise we’ll never get to learn kayaking properly. Since we’re both having some days off work now and the weather has been perfect, we’ve spent time checking the market for kayaks. The more we look, the more I adjust to the idea, that we are really gonna buy kayaks now and start paddling for real. Until now I have been a little reserved about the whole thing.

This is the kind of kayak we have in mind and that we’ll try out next Monday:

I’ll let you know, what it was like and if we spent the entire amount of our income tax refund on that rough water boat.
In Oslo we have great summer weather these days. It’s a joy to be on vacation at “home” in my own house and garden :)

Have a nice summer everybody!
